Bicycle Homebuilding is a small residential construction company based in Olympia, WA that has been building energy-efficient homes with environmentally-friendly materials and methods for over 10 years. Owner Pete Chramiec employs best practices and climate-specific strategies to build high performing and durable structures that need little maintenance over the course of their lifetimes. Most importantly, Pete and his construction team create beautiful houses that work within the available resources of each project.
Pete Chramiec, owner and founder of Bicycle Homebuilding describes his homes as “built with good ingredients”. This sensibility is echoed in the fundamental values that he works from: integrity of ideas and supplies, sound design, and collaborative techniques. Pete grew up in a Victorian home in Newport, Rhode Island, thoughtfully renovated by his parents, an artist and engineer. His earliest job was restoration and electrical repair on boats. A music career came next and he toured extensively in the US, Europe, Japan and Australia. Back home, Pete began work in residential construction and moved to Olympia, Washington in 1994 to complete a BA at the Evergreen State College. He worked for several years with Tibor Breuer Construction, pioneers in Northwest green building practices. Pete founded Bicycle Homebuilding in 2002 and has been handcrafting energy-efficient homes and businesses in the Puget Sound region ever since. He completed the Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC) training program in 2010.
